Joe Tecce’s opens.

1948

Originally the Fabulous Joe Tecce’s Restaurant, it is operated by Joseph Tecce at the corner of Salem Street and Cross Streets and is the successor to a fruit stand he operated earlier on the same site and then a pizzeria called Bella Napoli on Salem Street. The restaurant moves to at 61 North Washington Street in 1966. Patrons include local athletes and politicians, as well as Nat King Cole, Al Pacino, Frank Sinatra, and Elizabeth Taylor. Operated after Tecce’s death by his sons, the restaurant closes in 2011 and the building is converted to condominiums.
